The logic of what is found
The concept for the open space is based on the logic of what is existing. Together with the mature trees and the open meadow areas, careful additions are made to enhance the quality of the open spaces. In terms of their design language, the additions incorporate key features of the existing buildings and thus make a significant contribution to their appearance as a natural part of the renewed overall complex.
The open space of the development will be developed starting from Bellinzona / Appenzeller Strasse. This street and its redesign form the center and backbone of the development. Starting from this strong backbone, an orthogonal path structure derived from the existing buildings will be developed to provide access to the residential buildings. This linear system of paths is supplemented in places by landscaped curved paths. The embankment to the west forms the landscape backbone of the settlement and will be preserved without being reshaped.
The centrally located neighborhood square is the most urban spot in the area. New buildings with public first floor uses and existing buildings are equally adjacent to this square. To ensure the privacy of the existing and new ground floor apartments and the associated open space, the theme of the vegetative intermediate horizon is retained in the design and the existing hedges are supplemented in places with suitable native trees and shrubs. Playgrounds and the open spaces of the kindergartens will be given a border or a vegetative back with flowering wild hedges.
